# Benefits of Shadows

Whale Shadows unlock a range of new possibilities for Secret Society of Whales holders:

* **Global Access:** Shadows allow your SSoW NFTs to be recognized and used on multiple blockchains, not just Ethereum.
* **Cross-Chain Participation:** Shadows make it possible for your NFTs to interact with projects and communities on any supported chain, opening the door to new forms of engagement and utility across ecosystems.
* **Seamless Ownership:** Since Shadows always follow the OG Whale, you never have to manually transfer or manage your Shadow NFTs—they automatically update with your main NFT.

  > **Note:** At this time, Shadows must be manually synced to reflect changes in OG Whale ownership. For instructions, see [How to Obtain Shadows](/ssow/whale-shadows/how-to-obtain.md).
* **Security & Authenticity:** Because Shadows are soul-bound and cannot be sold or transferred directly, they always reflect the true ownership of the original NFT, reducing the risk of scams or unauthorized transfers.
* **New Use Cases:** Shadows enable new forms of delegation, rental, [bridging](https://github.com/champlification/ssow-docs/blob/main/docs/whale-shadows/bridging.md), and cross-chain utility, opening up innovative ways to use your SSoW NFTs in the broader ecosystem.
